International protection: new social protection restriction for citizenship
International protection applicants must not have received certain social protection payments in the two years before applying for citizenship. New powers to revoke refugee status for security concerns or serious crime.
Safe country list expanded — 6 new countries added
Algeria, Brazil, Egypt, India, Malawi and Morocco added to Ireland's safe country list. Applications from these nationals now go through accelerated procedures — faster decisions but higher scrutiny.
Ukrainian Temporary Protection extended — renewals to 2027 pending
Immigration permissions for Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection extended to 4 March 2026. Applications to renew to 2026 closed. Instructions for renewing to 2027 will issue shortly.
